Exams are now well underway, and we are immensely proud of our students for their hard work and brilliant effort. There's incredible learning taking place in lessons across the Academy, and a really positive atmosphere.

Subject spotlight: Computing

Over the last few lessons, Year 7 have been learning all about coding using the text-based programming language Python. So far, we have explored Python Turtle where they used iteration to draw shapes and create a snowflake using code.

Computing 1

This week they are learning about selection (IF/ELIF/ELSE) commands and creating a French translation program.

Computing 2

Year 11 GCSE Computer Science students had their first exam for Paper 1 (Computer Systems) on Monday. As you can see they've been working hard at their revision and testing their knowledge using past exam questions. Good luck, Year 11! - Mrs Y Smith

Subject spotlight: Psychology

Year 10 Psychology students have been putting their knowledge of perception into practice by creating their own visual illusions. Students were asked to showcase their work in class and together identified the key aspects of perception in each image. For example, perspective and occlusion can be used to trick the eye into seeing depth and distance in a 2D image. Not only could students show off their creativity, it was also a really good way for them to visualise how the key terminology can be applied to everyday life. - Miss Morgan

Extracurricular spotlight: Year 7 Boys Football

Due to the sheer popularity, Year 7 Football has continued to run into the Summer Term. I have been extremely proud of the commitment this year.

Year 7 Boys Football

The students have endured all winds and weathers (and snow flurries!) to improve their skills. Numbers have peaked at 56 at times, and it is fantastic to see so many students getting involved. - Mr Hard

Extracurricular spotlight: Year 8 Student Council

Our Year 8 Student Council has been busily working on areas that students have identified as important to them. They have delivered assemblies on homophobia, and have another planned for later in the term. They have introduced fun and enjoyable competitions such as 'Decorate your Classroom' and 'Design a Tutor Group Easter Egg' to bring back a competitive spirit. After half term we are getting out into the community to tidy up the local area and improve the environment for students and residents alike. We look forward to sharing our work with you in a future update. - Mrs Rowe

Supporting your child: Ready, Respectful, Responsible

It's wonderful to see our students being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible at all times. Please encourage your child to keep holding themselves to these high standards, and contributing to our positive and friendly Academy community.

  • Ready means arriving on time, in smart Business Dress, and fully equipped. By starting the day ready to learn, students set themselves up for success.
  • Respectful means showing courtesy to others and being relentlessly kind. Students always need to be considerate, both in person and on social media.
  • Responsible means making good choices, and taking ownership of our actions and success. It's also about showing integrity and trustworthiness.
