We hope you've all had a fantastic half term break. It's great to be back, and there's lots to look forward to in these final two months of the academic year. We continue to commend our students who are taking public exams, and we're proud of their hard work. Please read to the end for important information about attendance. ![]() Educational visit: France and Spain Trip75 students from Years 9, 10, and 12 were lucky enough to have the chance to visit some truly amazing places on our trip through France and Spain. ![]() Our first stop was Paris where we took in the sights by boat from the Seine, starting out at the spectacular Eiffel tower and cruising past famous landmarks such as the Notre Dame, the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, as well as travelling under Paris' many bridges. The banks of the river Seine are so beautiful that they were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. ![]() Moving on from Paris, we travelled down in to Spain for our first of three days in Salou. Students had a fantastic time in PortAventura and Ferrari Land, with some proudly clocking up 8 back-to-back goes on Red Force – Europe's tallest (365ft) and fastest (112mph) rollercoaster! ![]() Barcelona was our next destination and it didn't fail to impress, although for many, the mighty Sagrada Familia didn't quite live up to the same hype as the Nou Camp football stadium. ![]() Our last evening in Barcelona was dedicated to Spanish culture, wandering the streets of the immersive Poble Espanyol Museum and taking in a classic Flamenco dinner show. ![]() The trip didn't stop there though as we had one more place to visit before heading home, this was Poitiers in the south of France, here we spent the day contemplating how the world might develop in the future at Futuroscope, and reflecting on the innovations that have led us to where we are today such as the inspirational works of the great French novelist, Jules Verne. We also tested out some new modes of transport from flying boats to trampolines on water! ![]() The students were phenomenal ambassadors for the Academy, and as you can see from the photos, we had an unforgettable time! - Mr Price ![]() Extracurricular spotlight: Year 8/9 Basketball (Thu 3:15pm)Year 8 and 9 students have covered a range of skills and techniques to enhance their basketball ability during the after-hours club. We have looked at improving lay ups, shooting, and also passing as a means to develop overall play within game situations. Alongside this, attacking tactics to outwit opponents have been developed, with the intent to get into advantageous areas of the court more frequently. The students have used man-marking defence as a way to defend against the opposing team to limit their opportunity to shoot without resistance through small-sided conditioned games as well as full-court play. The consistency of student attendance and enthusiasm has been contagious to others. Alongside this, improvement of basketball ability has been a joy to identify over the last couple of months. - Mr McGeough ![]() Extracurricular spotlight: Year 10 French Club (Thu 3:15pm)The Year 10 French Club has done an amazing display about environment. Indeed, we are currently working on environment and or how we can protect our planet. In the posters, they raised concerns about climate change and provided advice about how we can save our planet presenting ways to save energy and to recycle. Students also gave examples about the actions that they take daily in order to tackle environmental issues. - Miss Sylla ![]() Supporting your child: Attendance to the AcademyKeeping up your child's attendance is essential to their wellbeing and academic success. It's really important to understand the meaning of an attendance figure. Although most people would be delighted to score 90% in a test, an attendance of 90% would be a huge cause for concern – it's equivalent to missing a whole day every two weeks! We expect all students to stay above 97% attendance unless there are really exceptional circumstances. Here are some key reminders:
