What a relief that the weather is milder today! We are lucky to be in a building with good airflow, but of course it's been harder to concentrate and our students have been wonderful. We're continuing high-quality learning right up until the end of the week, and everyone is rightly excited about next week's Rewards Days. This week, all Year 7-10 and Year 12 students will bring home their end-of-year Interim Report. Please ask to see this, and discuss it with your child. Important information about Rewards DaysPlease ensure that you have read all the information about our Rewards Days which take place next week. This includes guidance on what to pack and wear, how your child will be able to buy food and drink, and the timings and travel arrangements. It is essential that all students arrive at the correct time, and that parents stay well clear of the drop-off zone which will be needed by coaches. As there will be hundreds of students meeting by the gate for their trips, there is likely to be congestion. Similarly, at the end of each trip do not park in the drop-off zone as there will be up to 10 coaches returning at a time and we need the space for students to disembark safely. If you have any queries about next week, please contact the Trips team. Subject spotlight: GeographyLast week our Year 10 geographers went on an educational visit to Bewdley. ![]() The aim of the trip was to look at the human impacts of flooding in the area. ![]() Students spent the day completing a range of fieldwork tasks from field sketching to land use mapping, and they particularly enjoyed the questionnaire section of the day. ![]() The students were a real credit to the Academy and gathered some fantastic fieldwork data. It was a wonderful and memorable experience for everyone involved. - Mrs Carrick ![]() Subject spotlight: HistoryLast Thursday, our Year 10 historians enjoyed a beautiful day of sunshine at Kenilworth Castle. ![]() We have selected Kenilworth for the 'local history' element of the GCSE exam, as it is brilliant site to demonstrate change over time. ![]() Students learned about its defensive medieval origins, through to its modernisation by Robert Dudley for the visit of Elizabeth I and how it was torn apart by Parliamentarians after the Civil War. ![]() This kind of hand-on experience of the site will be invaluable for students' understanding and hopefully it was a bit of fun too! - Mr Mills ![]() Year Group spotlight: Year 13Year 13 students recently attended the Leavers' Tea Party, which is our annual event to say goodbye and share memories. Students had an opportunity to chat together over refreshments. This was followed by an assembly in which students were presented with awards and we showed photographs of their time at the Academy. Mutasim Rahman and Laiba Khan received awards in recognition of their work as Senior Prefects, and Sophie Hall was awarded the Head of School Award. - Mrs Noakes ![]() Extracurricular spotlight: CCFThis year has seen the Combined Cadet Force go from strength to strength. Our Year 9 cadets have worked through their Basic syllabus, supported by Year 11 leaders. In flight simulator training, Year 10s have practised takeoffs, landings, and aerial navigation. Cadets have also completed a programme of cybersecurity and programming, sponsored and developed by GCHQ, as well as an Activity First Aid qualification. ![]() Many cadets have taken part in their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and several have had the opportunity to fly the Grob Tutor aircraft for real. RAF instructors have complimented us on the respect, discipline, and good manners of our cadets. We have even more activities to look forward to on the upcoming Summer Camp, including adventurous training and a visit to an A320 simulator. ![]() We have set a target of increasing our contingent strength from 60 to 90 cadets over the next 18 months. Our next intake of new recruits will be in September. If the activities above have caught your interest and you would like to join, please speak to one of the CCF staff for more information. - Mr Burlace ![]() Upcoming Events
