At the weekend, we really enjoyed opening our doors to prospective students and their families. We have so much to be proud of at Q3 Academy Great Barr, and it was wonderful to demonstrate the rich learning taking place across our curriculum and beyond. Huge thanks to all the fantastic students who volunteered their time to support this event. They have been awarded Q-Points to recognise their selfless commitment. ![]() Developing young scholarsIn assemblies this week, we are talking to students about the positive learning habits that go beyond 'behaving well' and will enable them to really thrive in lessons. For example, we encourage students to approach tasks with a sense of urgency, to ask thoughtful questions, and to embrace mistakes as an opportunity for learning. As parents and carers, you can see on the ClassCharts app when your child receives Q-Points for Great Work or earns the prestigious Star of the Lesson. Rest assured that these are not given out for nothing – staff are intentional about recognising outstanding effort and learning behaviours. Impressive science experimentsOn Open Morning, we previewed a few of the many science experiments students will discover during their time at the Academy. Here, we see a student showcasing their knowledge of combustion with the 'wow' factor of methane bubbles. ![]() Year 12 students also shared their advanced knowledge of the structure of the heart. Developing hands-on skills is part of their A-Level practical endorsement. – Mrs Perera ![]() Miam miam, c'est délicieux !Prospective students enthusiastically took part in engaging activities such as ordering French food in the target language, using picture prompts to help. It was brilliant to notice that some of them knew the basics of the language already. – Mr Savadogo ![]() Great opportunities in Design & TechnologyIn DT, students have made a really impressive start to the academic year and have been excited to start their new projects. Incorporating new technologies with traditional hand skills, the department is looking forward to seeing what innovative and creative designs our students can come up with. ![]() Special thanks to the students who helped us out on Open Morning. It was great to see you demonstrating the skills you have learnt and the equipment we use. – Mr Webster ![]() Getting ready for our Geography field trip! This week our Year 11 geographers have been working hard on completing their first ever geographical report. ![]() They have meticulously created graphs and analysed data from their Bewdley fieldwork, in order to discuss their hypothesis which is unpinned by key geographical concepts. ![]() We are now preparing to head out on our second trip to Carding Mill Valley to explore river features! – Miss Perkins ![]() Feedback from our visitorsWe've had lots of positive comments about Open Morning, and it's lovely to share these because they capture the culture and ethos of our Academy:
