Scholarship across the curriculum

Our students have settled in well to the new half term, and it's wonderful to visit lessons and see so much high-quality learning taking place. We are proud to offer a broad and balanced range of subjects, and this week's newsletter celebrates work in Religious Studies, Textile Design, and ASDAN.

Reminder of standards

We are working hard to embed a positive culture and climate across the Academy, and part of this involves maintaining the high standards set out in our policies. Sometimes rules may come across as trivial, but the reality is that keeping up our expectations is key to establishing clear boundaries and setting a positive tone.

Please remind your child:

  • Shirts should be worn smartly tucked in, with the top button done up
  • Piercings are not allowed, except for a plain 5mm stud in each ear
  • No makeup is to be worn, including eyelash extensions or nail varnish
  • Only black or navy socks are allowed
  • ID badges must be on display at all times

Peer teaching in Religious Studies

This week in RS, Year 7 have been taking on the role of student teachers. Students were set an individual task of learning about either a fundamentalist or liberal interpretation of the Bible.

RS 1

They then used their explanation skills to teach their partner about their interpretation of the Bible and used their questioning skills to check their partner's understanding. Year 7 have excelled in their new role of becoming teachers! – Ms Colley

Sweets, Biscuits, and Cakes in Textile Design

In Year 10 Textiles this term, students have started to create a project about 'sweets, biscuits and cakes'.

Textiles 1

They have approached this theme with excitement and enthusiasm, and have learnt lots of new techniques and processes.

Textiles 2

They have produced some wonderful work demonstrating their understanding and skills.

Textiles 3

Well done Year 10! – Miss Jeanneret

Food Hygiene and Caring for Fish in ASDAN

In ASDAN, our Year 10 and 11 students have been exploring food hygiene and evaluating the importance of high standards when cooking and serving food. Students have had opportunities to research hygiene standards within the local area, questioning the standards of some of their favourite restaurants when learning about food hygiene ratings. In addition, our Year 10 students have had the opportunity to take a lead role in caring for our new additions to The Zone – learning about healthy lifestyles for fish and what they need to thrive and survive. – Miss Chamberlain

Learning the Highway Code

On Wednesdays, we run a club for Sixth Formers who are planning to take their driving theory test in the near future. Activities include learning the Highway Code such as the signs and road markings vital to passing your test.

Highway Code 1

Students have had opportunities to test their knowledge by taking online practice theory tests, and they have also had a go at hazard perception tests by clicking when a hazard is present (this is harder than it seems). If anyone is interested in joining us, see me for a letter. – Mrs Y Smith
