Great start to the new term

Students have settled back in really well, and there is a positive and purposeful atmosphere in lessons. Exam groups are working hard in preparation for their upcoming mocks, and we have recently launched our Year 11 'Making the Grade' programme of extra support and interventions.

Thank you for your kind Food Bank donations

We are proud to support local causes and families, and before Christmas we made a magnificent donation of over 200kg of food to the local foodbank. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed. – Mr Webster

Remember, remember the 5th of… January!

To start the new term, students showed off their knowledge of psychology by creating visual representations of the processes of memory.

Psychology 1

They produced some really creative illustrations of how memory works, which they presented to the class. Some students were even brave enough to take questions from the audience! – Miss Morgan

Science – Century Winter Cup

During the final three weeks of the Autumn term, students in Key Stage 3 took part in the Century Winter Cup. This was a national competition against other academies. In total our students answered 242,000 questions, which was an average of 228 questions per student and placed us 10th in our category – a great effort. Well done to Ellissia, Bethany, Mia, Madison, and Phoebe, who were some of the top performing students across the competition.

Students are set Century Learning tasks each week as part of their Independent Learning for Science. The program helps them to identify gaps in their knowledge, and pinpoint and address misconceptions. It then personalises content, questions, and pathways for every learner. It is a fantastic revision resource and we encourage students in Years 7-11 to use it regularly to maximise their learning. – Mrs Perera

Year 7 Party

The Year 7s had an end-of-term Christmas Party, where our students could dress to impress and dance the night away.

Year 7 Party 1

Prizes were awarded to students who demonstrated some fantastic dance moves on the night, with a particular mention going to Dylan!

Year 7 Party 2

We had a Conga as well as a drawing competition, and Mario Kart on the big screen in the Lecture Theatre.

Year 7 Party 3

It was a lovely way to end such a successful first term at Q3 Academy Great Barr. The Year 7 team are looking forward to seeing what amazing achievements the students will accomplish in the Spring Term. – Mrs Schwald-Samuel
