In this week's newsletter, we continue our positive focus on mental health and wellbeing. Keeping a healthy mind is just as important as looking after our physical health, and we want all our students to know they can reach out for support whenever they need it. Read on for updates from Geography and French Club, a reminder of next week's exciting Battle of the Bands, and several important notices for parents and carers. Children's Mental Health WeekThe focus of this year's Children's Mental Health Week is "Let's Connect!" encouraging young people to share their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and speak out about mental health stigma. In assemblies this week, Mr Richardson has been a strong role model in sharing his story about the tragic impact that not speaking out has had on his family. Students have been signposted to the support services available to help them "connect", and we have increased our on-site counselling and mental health first aid provision this week to ensure that every child who wanted to, could have a same-day session with an experienced mental health professional. We continue to work with a range of agencies to support students accessing the help that they need, and wish Mr Richardson every success with his fundraising efforts for the charity, Birmingham Mind. You can read more about his story and donate to this worthy cause on his JustGiving page. – Mr Price Lagos Needs You!In Year 9, we have been exploring what life is like in the city of Lagos. Lagos has many great economic opportunities and can therefore be defined as a "City of Excellence". We used this knowledge to develop our own idea of "excellence", as we then designed our own cities of opportunities. Speaking of excellence, here are also some of our Seneca Learning superstars! – Miss Perkins Key Stage 4 French ClubIn our weekly French Club, we play French scrabble to boost students' vocabulary knowledge, have fun, and keep healthy, active minds. – Mr Savadogo Battle of the BandsQ3 Academy Great Barr is proud to announce its first 'Battle of the Bands' concert. Bands from across all year groups and a staff band will all perform hoping to win this year's title. An independent judging panel will decide the winner on the night! Come along at 7pm on Wednesday next week for some excellent music, a great competition, and to see who will be crowned 2023's winner! Tickets can be purchased for £3 on ParentPay, and it would be amazing to see lots of family, friends, and members of the Academy community out to support. – Mr Sassons Preloved Business Dress and Sports KitThanks to generous contributions from parents and carers, we are proud to begin offering our Preloved Business Dress and Sports Kit service to anybody who requires it.
