In assemblies this week, we've been reminding students about our values of being ready, respectful, and responsible. Hard work is the norm at Q3 Academy Great Barr, and everyone has a role to play in contributing to our positive and enriching culture. It's been wonderful seeing more students staying for extracurricular clubs again, now that the afternoons are getting lighter. After a busy few weeks, everyone can look forward to a well-deserved break.

Best Presentation

Our character focus for the new fortnight is Best Presentation, which means we're encouraging students to take pride in the way they present their learning. In written subjects, this involves making an effort to lay out their work clearly. For example, in maths lessons students should copy model examples into their books and show their working for all practice questions. In practical subjects, students should consider how they present themselves through accurate skills and techniques, guided by success criteria.

A-Levels are worth studying for!

It has been fantastic to see Year 12 and Year 13 going the extra mile to ensure that they are studying effectively to achieve the very best in their A-Levels.

A-Level Study Club

A select group of our Sixth Form students have shown continued dedication towards their studies by engaging with the intervention and support provided during A-Level Study Club which will continue to run every Wednesday after hours until 4:00pm. We strongly encourage the Sixth Form to make the most of this opportunity, to boost their confidence and improve their outcomes.

A-Level Study Club

Year 13 mock examinations are due to take place from 27 February to 10 March 2023. The timetable for this final mock exam fortnight is available to all students via Google Classroom.

Sparx Maths

Sparx Maths is an exciting new resource designed to improve student attainment. We are trialling this with students in Key Stage 4. It boasts over 10,000 video tutorials and 45,000 questions to ensure that every student is exposed to personalised content to support and challenge them. The resource is designed to consolidate learning on previously learned topics, alongside the content being covered in lesson time. Watch this short parent video for more information. – Mr Crawford

Computing

As we know, every successful organisation has their own website. Year 9s have been researching local places of interest, businesses, and events, and exploring the world of the web designer.

They are currently engaged in creating a multi-page website on the local area using specialist software.

Year 11s are all working hard to prepare for their exams including attending intervention, but let's not forget that some Year 10s are also embarking on their first foray into formal assessment. Currently the Year 10 Creative iMedia students are working on completing their first unit which will be submitted to the exam board this summer. – Mrs Y Smith
