This week, we share photos from our incredible Paris trip and the impressive Drama Festivals our students performed in over Easter, as well as showcasing more of the vibrant day-to-day activities here in the Academy. Strike Days: What You Need to KnowOn the upcoming NEU strike days, Thursday 27th April (tomorrow) and Tuesday 2nd May, Year 11 and 13 students must attend the Academy as usual. Normal lessons will go ahead where possible, and we encourage students to bring revision guides so they can continue to be productive in supervised study if there are lessons where their class teacher is unavailable. All other year groups should work from home. For more information, see our website post. A Parisian Adventure for Year 8Before Easter, we wished a bon voyage to nearly 70 of our Year 8 students as they set off to explore Paris and the surrounding areas. Students had the opportunity to practise their French in a variety of settings, including buying their lunch in a French market and at a bakery in the beautiful historic town of Brie-Comte-Robert. ![]() There were a range of exciting excursions to lots of places of interest, a popular one being France's national stadium, Stade de France... ![]() ...where students had a guided tour around the stunning 80,698 seater stadium, which we learnt made it the sixth-largest in Europe. We even had VIP access to sit on the benches in the changing rooms which had a hot tub the size of a swimming pool! ![]() After a river cruise taking in everything Paris has to offer up close, with commentary sharing the stories behind the buildings and monuments of this magical city, we worked up an appetite for dinner by climbing the 222 steps in Montmartre to get a view from above. Working up an appetite in Paris can be easily rewarded by enjoying a delicious meal in a traditional French restaurant. ![]() However, the obvious highlight of any trip, no matter how many wonderful things we have planned, is always the happiest place on Earth, Parc Disneyland! – Mr Price ![]() Students Triumph in Drama FestivalsOver the Easter break the Drama department took eleven of our talented and dedicated students to two regional drama festivals. Students performed on stage an original script entitled 'Roadside Flowers for the Dead' to official adjudicators and live paying audiences. They were competing for acting trophies against established amateur theatre companies from across the region. ![]() At the Birmingham Festival of Music and Entertainment on Sunday 2nd April, students had excellent feedback from the adjudicator and two of our performers were runners-up in the Best Individual Performance category. ![]() At the Hastilow Drama Festival on Sunday 16th April, again students were professional and performed fantastically. The adjudicator at this festival was famous West End director Bob Tomson. Students received excellent feedback being congratulated on tackling a complex and emotive piece with maturity and skill. Students were awarded the Willcocks Trophy. ![]() It has been a pleasure seeing our students flourish in these festivals and gain such confidence and experience on stage ![]() This is the youngest group of performers we have taken to the regional festivals to date and we are so proud of them. A massive well done to all our fantastic festival performers. – Mrs Karim & Mr Davis ![]() Beyond Monopoly: Board Games Club at our AcademyEvery Wednesday at the end of the day, the staff and students at Board Games Club are thrilled to delve into the lesser-known world of board games, leaving Monopoly and Scrabble far behind. ![]() From madcap camel races to the intricate strategies of empire building, there's a fantastic game for everyone to enjoy! New members are always welcome so speak to me or Mr Kulyna if you are interested. – Mr Mills ![]() Year 7 Students Explore Mid-Tudor CrisisHistory students in Year 7 have been investigating the idea of whether there was a 'Mid-Tudor Crisis' in the 16th century by analysing issues such as religion, poverty, and rebellions. Tackling authentic historical debates head-on allows students to dive deep into the complexities of the subject. – Mr Mills ![]() Mind Maps and Flash Cards! We are continuing to showcase some of the amazing revision our Year 11 students have been doing at home and in the Academy. ![]() This week, our dedicated student Emily has been putting in the effort to create a diverse range of revision resources to supercharge her learning! ![]() Here we see a mind map of the Human Genome Project and flash cards for circle theorems and allotropes of carbon. All this work contributes to strengthening understanding and boosting confidence in the upcoming exams. – Miss Tromans ![]() Upcoming Events
