Each lesson, one exceptional student will be recognised for their outstanding use of Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary, showcasing their linguistic prowess and active engagement in class. ![]() Discover Our Library at Q3 Academy Great BarrLast week, we welcomed a new group of students to enjoy reading in our Library. ![]() Mrs Leadbeater is thrilled to share the welcoming space with students, fostering a love of reading among Year 7s and Year 8s. ![]() Year 7s Katie, Rocky, Kyren, and Adam joined the Library last week. This will enable them to visit during opening times and also borrow books. The Library has recently been replenished with nearly 200 new books, across all reading levels. ![]() The Library is available to all students before and after the Academy day and is also open during break and lunchtimes. If your child has a passion for books or would appreciate a peaceful room for independent study, they are always welcome to come and speak with me in the Library. – Mrs Burge ![]() Q3 Academy Heads to Sandwell Cup FinalOur Year 9 boys football team reached the final of the Sandwell Cup in a thrilling match against Phoenix Collegiate Academy. Although Phoenix took the lead before half time, Q3 Academy Great Barr equalised in the second half. Phoenix scored two more goals, but we didn't give up and scored two more goals, taking the match into penalties. We won 5-4 on penalties and will face Shirelands Collegiate Academy in the final on 16th May. – Mrs Halford ![]() Chess Club – 'Check' out their skills!Chess Club continues to thrive at Q3 Academy Great Barr. Students regularly turn up to play each other and develop their skills. ![]() Many students are developing their interest by playing in their own time or learning content from online sources. ![]() Staff also get involved and play students to test their skills! – Mr Brocklebank ![]() Spring has truly sprung!Students in Nature Club have enjoyed exploring the thriving wildlife site, and we are pleased to see that the Common Newt population is thriving once again. ![]() Next week, nature club is exploring wildflowers. Now that the summer term has truly begun, we are looking forward to discovering more wildlife! Please speak to me if you are interested in joining. – Mr Wilson ![]() You must FAIL before you can SAILYear 10 psychologists were attempting a brand new structure of question this week, which they worked through step-by-step to achieve a perfect answer. Initially they wrote a First Attempt In Learning (FAIL), which was a response to the question before any guidance from the teacher. ![]() They then peer-assessed the FAIL using a mark scheme outlining the success criteria for each level and highlighting Tier 3 words. They wrote a strength and a target to improve next time. Students will now be given the opportunity to re-write their response (Second Attempt In Learning) using all the advice that was given by their peers and teacher. – Miss Morgan ![]() Impressive Easter Revision from Year 11Over the next few weeks, we are continuing to showcase the amazing revision that is taking place in the Academy. ![]() All students in science were recently set a booklet of exam questions for revision. ![]() It is great to see these examples from Neena, where she has used the mark scheme to fill in any gaps in knowledge, highlighting areas she needs to improve on. – Miss Tromans ![]() Compelling Theatre Experience for A-Level Drama StudentsYear 12 Drama and Theatre students went to see internationally renowned touring theatre company Complicite in their new work 'Drive your Plow over the Bones of the Dead'. The production dealt with many mature themes such as animal rights in a creative and thought-provoking way, combining physical theatre, monologue, and an impressive use of projection to communicate the themes. – Mrs Karim ![]() Packing a Punch: Mentoring Through BoxingOver the past few weeks, a number of students have been engaging with Box Clever Mentoring. This is a programme designed to promote the skills, discipline, and hard work of boxing, and allow the students to transfer those skills into daily life. ![]() The students have been working brilliantly with their coach and are looking forward to a potential trip to the boxing gym for their final session before the summer holidays. – Mr Webster ![]() Upcoming Events
