Good Luck to Everyone Starting Exams!

Well done to all our Photography, Graphics, and Textiles students who have now completed their final exams, and good luck to those starting their Art exams tomorrow. On Monday, the main examination season begins and we wish everyone all the best. The months and years of hard work will pay off, and we know you'll all be great!

As Year 11 and 13 students power through their revision, remember it's also important to take breaks, get plenty of sleep, eat well, and stay active. Our pastoral team is always on hand to offer support and help alleviate any anxiety.

Discovering Chemistry and Physics through Practical Work

Year 8 students have eagerly plunged into the fascinating world of chemistry by learning about acids and alkalines, making their own red cabbage indicators to test various substances.

Preparing the indicator

Students used the indicator to determine if their sample solutions were acids or alkalis.

Year 8 Brilliant Block Bots!

Miss Robotham's Year 8 students have been busy developing their woodwork skills to create their own unique Block Bots. Throughout this project, students have eagerly embraced learning and diligently adhered to health and safety rules within the workshop.

After creating their design ideas, students used handsaws to cut their wood to the correct measurements. They then used the pillar drill and sanding machine to ensure their product has been made to their best ability.

It has been fantastic to see the students working hard to create high-quality outcomes, using acrylic, googly eyes, and rope to bring their design ideas to life. Well done Year 8! – Miss Robotham

Tackling Real Issues through Virtual Reality Training

A group of Year 10 students were lucky enough to take part in a Virtual Reality Workshop as part of the Academy's ongoing work with the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership team.

Students getting kitted out in their VR gear

The students were fully immersed in the virtual scenarios, with some expressing surprise at the outcomes of their decisions, leading to thoughtful discussions about their choices and the importance of considering different perspectives. Hopefully this will be the first of many similar sessions in the future. – Mr Webster
