Exams are going really well, and we're proud of our Year 11 and 13 students who are working incredibly hard. Not only are they doing lots of revision and applying their full effort in the exam papers, they are also behaving impeccably and we've had lots of positive feedback from our team of invigilators. Keep up the great work!

Year 10 Students on Work Experience

Thank you to all the employers, parents/carers, and teachers for supporting our Year 10 students with their work experience this year. Every student has a placement, and it's been lovely going out on visits to see them. Here we see Keira and Carina happy at St. Mark's Catholic Primary School.

Musha is at IPU group working with our Enterprise Advisor, Mark. He has been learning how to build laptops and although it's hard work, he was all smiles which was great to see!

Look at that desk!

Here, Josh is at The Millenium Centre discussing activities with Leanne in the calm before the storm as the youth club was about to start.

Eagerly awaiting the busy rush of Youth Club.

Millie, who also won a street dance competition this week, has been fantastic picking orders at Greeting House. We look forward to seeing more pictures from everyone, and encourage Year 10 students to take part in the Send Us A Selfie competition! We are also always looking to partner with new employers, so please do get in contact if you know anyone able to help. – Mrs Meredith

Nature Inspires Year 9 Clay Tile Creations

Over the past few weeks, our Year 9 students have been working hard in their art classes, exploring nature and the beauty of the outdoors as their inspiration. As part of this project, they have created some truly wonderful clay tiles – we are extremely proud!

Four tiles

To accomplish this, they have had to experiment how to make different textures and surfaces using clay, and arrange their tiles to represent different features found in a woodland.

The students have enjoyed working with a new material and learning about the properties of clay. The students' final pieces not only perfectly capture the intricate details of their chosen natural objects, but also brilliantly showcase their unique styles and creativity.

Once dry, the clay tiles were painted using acrylic, emphasising colour and shape. Well done, Year 9! – Miss Jeanneret

Year 10 Students Tackle Spoken Language Assessments

Our Year 10 students have been working exceptionally hard in English to prepare for their spoken language assessments. Students are required to pick a topic that they feel strongly about and prepare a 3-minute speech to perform. Students have enjoyed lessons preparing for this and will be ready to complete these after half term. – Miss Russell

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Trip

On 11th May, ten of our students across Years 7-9 attended anti-bullying training in Coventry in order to be trained up as new ambassadors to join our already fantastic anti-bullying student team.

Students completed activities in their workbooks.

The training was provided through the Diana Awards and students gained valuable insights into the nature of bullying, its effects on young people, and how they can help with this issue.

Time was given to start to put their plans together.

They already have heaps of ideas for helping to support students with bullying-related problems and to spread the message of respect and positivity across the Academy. – Miss B Smith

Students were presented with certificates and badges.

Protecting our Data in the Metaverse: How is it Done?

More and more of our lives are online, from social media to online shopping and banking. As our use of the 'metaverse' increases, cybersecurity has become the biggest area of growth in terms of employment in the computer science industry. This means our data has to be protected from outside forces, especially when we rely on it so much.

Completing a list of cybersecurity issues

Year 9 students have been delving into the various threats to our online data, from malicious viruses that damage devices to hackers targeting personal profiles. They have then explored current methods utilised to prevent unauthorised access to our data, including malware, phishing, hacking, and physical security.

Investigating ransomware

The Computing department would like to extend our best wishes to all Year 11 and Year 13 students sitting their exams over the next few weeks, and if they need any further support they are more than welcome to pop in. – Mrs Y Smith

Year 9 Boys Battle In Sandwell Cup Final

On Tuesday 16th May, our Year 9 boys' football team faced off against Shireland Collegiate Academy in the Sandwell Cup Final. The team was full of confidence and anticipation with their first Academy final ahead of them.

Team photo before leaving for the final

The game started off full of energy and enthusiasm from both sides. We were determined to win, but Shireland Collegiate Academy was a tough opponent. The first half saw both teams creating chances, but neither was able to convert them into goals. The second half was even more intense, with both teams pushing hard to break the deadlock. Shireland Collegiate Academy's defence was solid and hard to break down. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, taking the match to penalties.

Warm-up and preparation before the match commences

The tension was high as the two teams lined up for the penalty shootout. Unfortunately Q3 Academy Great Barr just fell short, losing 5-3 on penalties and finished as runners up after a valiant performance. Despite the disappointment of losing, the Year 9 boys showed great sportsmanship and congratulated Shireland Collegiate Academy on their victory. The match was a great display of skill and determination from both teams and they can be proud of their efforts. – Mr McGeough
