Year 10 had a fantastic week of work experience before half term, and in today's newsletter we're pleased to share many more photos and good news stories from their placements. This week, our Year 12 students are also embarking on their own work experience adventures, and we can't wait to share their exciting stories with you soon. Huge thanks to Mrs Meredith for organising all of this, and of course to all the employers who've been hosting our students. We're really grateful for your partnership, and the opportunities you have created for our students. In this newsletter, we also have updates from netball, Year 7 Design & Technology, and the Junior Maths Challenge. Read on! Enthusiastic Engager!Following our successful focus on Swift Starters, we are now celebrating students who are Enthusiastic Engagers in lessons! Our students are earning Q-Points by diving into discussions, tackling tasks head-on, and contributing to a positive, vibrant classroom atmosphere. Celebrating Year 10 Work Experience AchievementsIt's been lovely returning to the Academy after the half term break to hear all the positive feedback from Year 10 Work Experience. Thanks to all the companies for their support and completed reference forms. Lovell commented how Jack and Seb were a credit to the Academy, while Clayton Hotels were thrilled that Kelsey and Shontae put their best forward and really got stuck in. We were very proud on our visits to see students in the working environment developing skills for the future. Above we see Mohammed hands-on at Witton Road Garage. In the image below, Ben was really enjoying working with the lovely students at Grove Vale. Gurshaan was having a really positive experience handling the stock and making up orders at Jhoots Pharmacy. Rian and Georgia literally pond-dipped to help out with the infants on a visit to the RSPB. Max was happy to listen and learn about work at Bulleys Chartered Surveyors. Kirath was creative in the Library preparing for the activities over half term. Thanks to Sandwell Council for all of their placements. – Mrs Meredith Girls' Netball Team on the RiseThe girls have continued to work really hard this year in their netball training. Discussing tactics and practising drills, they are determined to improve and continue to build a fantastic netball squad. Next year, we hope to become a more competitive team with a number of fixtures in the pipeline. I am so proud of the girls, who commit their time to being the best netballers they can be and attend training every week. A big well done! – Miss Bull Year 7s Craft Sustainable Ugly Dolls!Mr Webster's Year 7 students have been getting creative, making their own sustainable 'Ugly Dolls'. Sustainability has been key to this project, with students learning about textiles waste and then recycling a textile item from home to create their product. From design ideas, pattern pieces, and cutting out their fabric, to applique, embroidery, and using the sewing machine, students have worked incredibly hard in all elements of the manufacturing of their Ugly Dolls. Well done, Year 7! – Miss Robotham Incredible Junior Maths Challenge Success!I am delighted to announce that our Year 7 and 8 students have successfully completed the UK Maths Challenge! Congratulations to all the students who participated and put in their best efforts to showcase their mathematical skills. I am thrilled to share that we have some exceptional achievers in our midst. In Year 8, we have one student who has secured a Gold award, five students who have earned silver awards, and twelve students who have earned Bronze awards. In Year 7, we have three students who have earned Silver awards and six students who have earned Bronze awards. We are immensely proud of all students who took part, for their hard work and dedication towards this challenge.
