Our Year 11 students have worked exceptionally hard through a challenging four weeks of GCSE and vocational exams, and now they've earned the well-deserved reward of an extended summer break. As we bid them a fond farewell, we can't wait to see the amazing things they'll accomplish in their future endeavours. We look forward to welcoming many students back in September to our Sixth Form. Meanwhile, Year 13 are still hard at work with A-Level exams, and Years 10 and 12 with mocks. It's also National Sports Week, with lots of exciting competitions taking place. Year 11 Leavers' Assembly and Shirt SigningLast Thursday was our Year 11 Leavers' Assembly and shirt signing. We gathered to say goodbye to a wonderful year group who have worked so hard over the last 5 years. During the assembly there were tears, stories, time to reflect, and a lot of laughter! After the assembly we went into Quisine for shirt signing and some sweet treats. We also distributed the letters that Year 11 wrote to their future selves back in September. As we made our way outside for more shirt signing and photos, there were lots of lovely stories of "that time when..." and "I can't believe when..." It was a wonderful afternoon reminiscing about the last 5 years. If leavers would like to donate Sports Kit or Business Dress (not shirts) back to the Academy, it would be greatly appreciated. Please can items be handed in at reception, and these will be made available as part of our Pre-Loved Business Dress scheme. Miss Tromans and I will miss you all very much and cannot wait to see the big smiles on your faces on Results Day! Results Day is Thursday 24th August and we wish you all a well-deserved, safe, and restful summer holiday. We spent three full days collecting data which allowed us to apply the theory explored in the classroom to real-life geographical settings. The geographers explored the local woodlands, where they collected data on carbon content relating to their studies on carbon and water. We then travelled to the beautiful coast to collect some data on Minehead Beach. Four rock groynes were placed on Minehead beach in order to protect the coast, so we measured slope profiles to assess whether the groynes placed along the beach are actually an effective method of coastal protection. Most importantly, as true geographers our students spent the evening interpreting, assessing, and evaluating the data they had collected in the field. This valuable learning experience not only enriched our students' understanding but also set the stage for a successful coursework write-up in the coming weeks. – Miss Perkins Students Clean Up at Nature ClubIn Nature Club on Thursday, students decided to go litter picking to help wildlife around the Academy thrive. Students work hard planting trees, looking after our pond, and much more during Nature Club, so keeping our Academy free from litter means a lot to them. Students really enjoyed this activity and they all did a great job. Well done! – Mrs Leadbeater A-Level Drama Students Address Mental HealthOur A-Level Drama and Theatre students performed their original devised performance I'm Still Me that focused on the important issues of mental health and eating disorders. The performance was designed to show the human stories behind the issues and provoke the audience to think about the impact of words and actions. Students are assessed on their ability to create a performance based on a text extract stimulus and a theatrical practitioner influence. This year, students took on the roles of both performer and designer to create a piece that audience members commented on as being hugely thought-provoking about important issues in our society. – Mrs Karim Upcoming Events
