The Academy was buzzing with sporting energy last week, as students engaged in athletic challenges before and after hours, during breaktimes, and in Wellbeing Active lessons. We also saw three teams successfully complete weekend expeditions in the local area, a significant stride towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Read on for more information about these, as well as a showcase of brilliant work from our Year 12 psychologists! This week's newsletter also contains important reminders about our reception opening hours and the upcoming industrial action. A Week of Sports!Q3 Academy Great Barr came alive with excitement as students took part in a range of activities to celebrate National Sports Week. The week was filled with fun and engaging sports activities, including football penalties against a selection of teachers and a crossbar challenge before the Academy day. During breaktimes, students participated in catch the tennis ball, basketball free throw, and the golf chip challenge. ![]() Students from Years 7-9 also took part in a Tutor Group bench football tournament after the Academy day. The tournament was a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills and work together as a team. Throughout the week, students earned points for their participation, which were collated and put into Tutor Group and individual competitions. ![]() We would like to congratulate all the students who took part in National Sports Week and showed great sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience. In particular, Tutor Group 7.2 earned the most points in the Academy with 1070, and well done to William (7.2), and Maddison and Eloise (9.1), who achieved the most individual points. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and having fun while promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles. – Mr Hard ![]() Duke of Edinburgh's Award ExpeditionStudents from Years 9, 10, and 12 took to Cannock Chase last weekend to complete their Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition. Participants then returned to camp to cook their evening meals and prepare for the next day's walk. ![]() The second day saw participants carrying all of their equipment over Cannock Chase as they completed an eight-mile walk. Despite one group becoming temporarily navigationally challenged and the hot and humid weather conditions, all of the students successfully completed the route and made their way back to the campsite for a well-deserved rest and a meal. – Mr Burlace ![]() Psyched For Success!Last week, Year 12 psychologists sat their mock exams and did brilliantly!
