We are now three weeks into the new academic year and students are fully engaged in their learning as well as taking up the extracurricular opportunities on offer. We encourage all students to attend at least one club and take advantage of the various activities on offer. This week we have welcomed prospective parents/carers into the Academy for our Open Day, and we also look forward to the exciting changes coming to the Academy after next week. Please read on for more details! Important Information About Our Planned IT Upgrade Next WeekThe time for our exciting IT upgrade has finally arrived! Starting this weekend and continuing throughout next week, we are replacing all our hardware with new state-of-the-art devices, and joining The Mercian Trust's unified IT platform. We look forward to the opportunities created by this digital transformation. Please be mindful that next week staff will have no access to phones or emails until Monday 9th October. You are still welcome to get in contact by email, but we will be unable to respond until after that date. In an urgent emergency only, or to report your child's absence, we will provide some mobile phone numbers on our website for you to contact us through WhatsApp, text message, or phone call. Earlier this week, students placed their food orders for next week. These will be billed as usual through ParentPay, and each morning students will receive tokens to exchange for their ordered meals at break and lunch. If your child did not pre-order food, please ensure that they arrive with a packed lunch each day. Welcoming prospective families! On Saturday 23rd September, we welcomed potential future Year 7 students to view the facilities and learning opportunities they can experience if they were to join us for the next academic year. There was much to see and offer over the morning. The Science department demonstrated what students will experience in a Science practical lesson. The Art department showcased some of the wonderful designs and concepts created by our students. Our History department, as enthusiastic as always, had various props linked to the array of topics they cover. Current students showcased the cooking facilities, providing delicious cookies for our prospective students and families. The Wellbeing Active and PE department shared the wonderful facilities on offer and, of course, the trophy cabinet displaying all the great sporting achievements of our students! Mr Burlace, along with some of our students, showcased one of the various aspects of extracurricular life at the Academy – the Cadets programme. The range of resources we have is fantastic, including a VR flying simulator! To top it all off, Mr Sassons and his band marched around the Academy, providing some lovely musical numbers for all to enjoy! Year 7 Coleslaw Creations!Mrs Harkin's Year 7 students have been busy creating some delicious coleslaw. Students have spent time learning about health and safety with a food environment and then were able to apply this knowledge to use equipment safely, avoid hazards and cross contamination to create a high quality dish. The students' excitement and enthusiasm during their first experience in the food room was truly inspiring. Well done Year 7! – Mrs Leybourn GCSE Drama Students Bring 'Blood Brothers' to Life in Exam PreparationThe academic year may have just begun, but Year 11 Drama students are already working hard to prepare for their written exam in May. For part of this exam, students have to show outstanding knowledge of a set playscript. What better way to do this than by staging the play? In lessons students have been staging extracts from Willy Russell's 'Blood Brothers'. Students read the text and went to see a professional production of the musical tragedy last academic year. Currently our lessons concentrate on helping students creatively stage scenes that generate meaning and atmosphere, while also considering the influences of practitioner and historical context on the text. – Mrs Karim Knitting, Cross Stitch and Crochet ClubEvery week on a Tuesday, students get together at Knitting and Crochet Club for a knit and natter. At the club we support each other in learning and developing the skills of knitting, crocheting, and cross stitch. This academic year we look forward to getting 'hooked' on crochet and latching. Latch hooking is where students use a specially designed latch hook to knot short segments of wool to a canvas grid. During the Autumn term students are working on designing and making a range of items. Some are making latch cushions whilst others are making cross stitch bookmarks. We meet weekly in room 307 and welcome students from all Year Groups to join us! – Mrs Noakes The ZAFTA Award! This week's ZAFTA went to Miss Morgan. Her lessons this week were full of students thinking hard and practising their extended writing skills. Zog was very impressed and agreed to help Miss Morgan with her marking as a reward! – Mr Mills Looking out for yourself and othersAs an Academy, we truly care about every one of our students. We recognise that, at times, they may struggle with various aspects of their life, both within the Academy and in their own personal lives. We strive to be supportive and regularly help students with a range of support and services from both internal and external services. We encourage all students to voice any concerns they have, either for themselves or others. Their Personal Tutor is on hand to discuss any concerns they may have, or students can email BeBrave@q3academy.org.uk to share any worries. Upcoming Events
