This week has been another busy one at the Academy. Some of our highlights include our Year 10 students learning about the world of engineering, the music department sharing some of the fantastic teaching and learning opportunities, and Computing sharing what has been happening following the recent digital transformation. Following a very busy half term which had lots of new and exciting opportunities, we wish students and their families a lovely (and well-deserved) break next week, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 6th November. Music is Showcased throughout the AcademyGCSE and A-Level students have been taking time to perform for students around the Academy. Beckham in Year 11 has performed a virtuosic piano piece 'Unraveled' from the popular anime Tokyo Ghoul. Beckham has been rehearsing this for some time and a practice performance will help Beckham secure the high marks he so richly deserves. ![]() In Ms Baines' lessons, Isobelle in Year 13 has been using the Quisine in order to develop her saxophone tone and performance skills. Staff and students walking through the Quisine have been treated to Grade 8 studies, jazz improvisation, and Lyrical Ballads. Performing in the large open spaces gives our budding performers a space to perform, improve confidence, and rehearse their recital pieces. – Mr Sassons ![]() Discovering the Joy of Computer Science at our Academy!Whether using new or old computers, Computer Science is fun! After the digital transformation, all students have now had their new account details and have been able to explore Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and OneDrive. Our new setup allows students to access work from anywhere, using any device, as long as they have an internet connection. We are all excited about our new computing kit and systems, and every class has had a lesson where they have been able to set up and explore. ![]() In addition, let's not forget about the old. This term, our Year 12 students have dived headfirst into their studies, taking apart, investigating, and rebuilding old computers – it's been an enlightening experience for all! Learning how all the components fit together and which cables are used for each has involved some interesting discussions on inefficiencies and redundant components. These activities might well be nurturing some budding innovators among our students. ![]() Students in Years 7-9 who are interested in exploring the inner workings of a computer or learning to program their own game are warmly invited to join us in Room 304 with Mrs Smith every Wednesday, 3:20 – 4:20pm for KS3 Computing Club. – Mrs Y Smith Independent Learning ClubOn Mondays and Wednesdays the SEND department offer Independent Learning Club from 3:15 – 4:00pm in Room 106. Our team of LSAs and LSPs are on-hand to support students. It is an inclusive space where students are encouraged to become more confident self-directed learners. We recognise Independent Learning can be challenging for our SEND students. If you are interested, please speak to your child's Key Worker. – Miss Reardon-Allen ![]() Year 10 Pupils Dive into Engineering with VROur Year 10 Design Technology students demonstrated excellent tech skills exploring Cast Metal Engineering using VR equipment with Next Gen Makers. Initially, after learning about the different job roles, the students went on to explore two local workplaces using VR headsets. It was fantastic to see how engaged students were! ![]() The session was a hit among the students, who found it highly informative – they even rated it an impressive 11 out of 10 ![]() Our students are now more excited than ever about their future in the field of technology and engineering. – Mrs Meredith ![]() Miss Murphy takes the ZAFTA!Zog spent a week with Miss Murphy to see her excellent whole class questioning in action.
