We have finally made it to the end of a long first term. However, as always we continue to remain busy and we are delighted to share with you a wide variety of events that have happened over the past week at the Academy. In addition, this week we have hosted our Award Assemblies, celebrating the fantastic achievements of a plethora of students across all Year Groups. Students will receive a personalised certificate and badge which we encourage them to look after and wear with pride. Well done to all those who received a nomination! Finally, as we come to the end of term, we would like to wish all students and their families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy your break and we look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 9th January at the normal time of 8:45am. Our Dazzling 2023 Christmas Production 'Once Upon A Time'Our spectacular Christmas production of 'Once Upon A Time' has been a hit with audiences this week! The show starts with a battle between two old foes – Peter Pan and Captain Hook. As the two old foes fight, the evil Enchantress enters and puts a spell on everyone. She knows that in the end, the laws of fairytales and Pantomime always dictate that good will defeat evil. But what if good didn't exist? What would happen then? She banishes all the good characters from fairytales and Pantomime, so that evil can triumph. However the mighty magician Merlin has other ideas... Our dedicated students have poured their creativity and passion into every rehearsal, ensuring 'Once Upon A Time' is a smash hit! – Mrs Karim A Big Bienvenue to Miss PanapasiThis term, we welcomed Miss Panapasi our new French Language Assistant to support students with their conversational speaking skills. Students have enjoyed working with her, and it's a pleasure to hear students putting their French skills to the test! Year 11 students are working hard in KS4 French club and practising each skill to be ready for their GCSE exams. Devan and Maddie, who did amazingly well in the last mock exam, are proudly showing off their completed work in French. Jonathan who achieved a Grade 9 last year in French is always ready to help his peers. – Miss Sylla Q3 Academy Great Barr scores with a visit from WBA's Connor TownsendAs part of our ongoing work with the Albion foundation, we were delighted to have Connor visit the Academy. Students studying GCSE PE, Sports Science, and Sports Studies in Years 10 and 11 engaged in an interactive session with Connor Townsend, where they put their teamwork and communication skills into practice through a series of group challenges. Connor then answered questions and the students enjoyed photo opportunities and autographs! – Mr Brocklebank Inspirational Hezron Brown captivates Year 7 & 8 students! We recently welcomed Hezron Brown back to the Academy. Hezron is an inspirational, motivational speaker who engages students with an amazing story of his life and how he managed to make positive changes. Hezron is a Pride of Britain Award winner and captivated students with his transformative life story. This time, he delivered talks to Year 7 and Year 8 students. Hezron's company, More Talk More Action (MTMA) is an organisation that supports students through mentoring. MTMA have been helping a number of our students make positive changes in the Academy since September 2023. – Mr Brocklebank Festive Fun at the Year 8 Christmas Disco! The Year 8 students celebrated the end of the Autumn term with their Christmas Disco. Students dressed in their best Christmas attire and danced along to Mr Sasson's tunes. There were awards for 'Best Dressed' as well as 'Best Dancer'. Well done to the winners, Joe, Avneet, Sapphire, and Charlie! Students also had the opportunity to play some board games against their peers and we also had a creative colouring corner where students could have some quiet time away from the loud music! We're already looking forward to next year's event as well as the other events planned throughout the year! – Mrs Schwald-Samuel Bench Football Frenzy and Disco Delight for Year 7 StudentsIn the last week we have had an amazing turnout for two events for Year 7 students. The Year 7 bench football tournament and the Year 7 Winter Disco. Friday 1st December was the Bench Football tournament. We had 8 teams of 8 players and it was up to the students to create their teams with silly team names. The noise was crazy and the enthusiasm was excellent. We ended up having two rounds and two different winners. Well done to the Bacon Bashers and the Football Freaks! On Friday 8th December, 130 Year 7 students attended the Winter Disco and came in all their finery! Phones were handed in so there would be "more knee slides than selfies" (Mr Sassons), which there were! Loads of noise and loads of fun was had by all! We wish you a safe and happy winter break and look forward to the New Year! – Mrs Ward U13 Girls Football TournamentThe Year 7 and Year 8 girls played a full sized game alongside teams from across Sandwell. It was a closely matched game. However, our girls played some extremely good football and deservedly came away with a win thanks to a late goal from Zahra. Well done girls! – Mrs Schwald-Samuel Mr Burlace scoops ZAFTA win!Mr Burlace secured the coveted ZAFTA award for his commitment to high quality teaching and learning. Zog spent the week in the Science Department and managed not to get in too much trouble! – Mr Mills End of Term ArrangementsThe Academy will be taking part in our annual Christmas Jumper Day tradition on the slightly later date of Friday 15th December as to coincide with our end of term. Students will finish at the earlier time of 12:30pm on this day. We appreciate that money is tight for most families right now, so we won't be requesting a minimum donation towards Christmas Jumper Day this year. Instead, if you are able to spare a little change, there is a list of charities below who would gladly welcome your donation. These charities have been carefully selected for some of the amazing work that they have done directly impacting our Academy community. Important MessagesFinally, we would like to share some important messages before we begin next term. We encourage parents/carers to complete the survey and support us in reviewing our Positive Behaviour Policy. The link can be found here. In addition, whilst we always seek to support our students and families, we would like to remind you to ensure you maintain respectful communication when speaking to staff. Again, please find Mr Arnull's recent message about this here. Upcoming Events
