Pasta with a chance of meatballs!

It's been another busy week at the Academy! Our Year 10 students have been making pasta from scratch, and our Year 11 and Sixth Formers are working really hard to prepare for their mock exams, prior to the upcoming Summer examinations.

Perfect Pasta!

Mrs Leybourn's Year 10 Food and Nutrition students have been working hard to create fresh pasta and meatballs. Within the lesson, students developed their practical skills and their understanding of food science.

Through practical application, students were able to visualise how gluten forms, how the Mallard reaction alters the properties of meat, and how to create a reduction based sauce.

A huge well done to our star of the lesson Kyro, who independently created a high quality dish, whilst still offering guidance to other students. – Mrs Leybourn

Year 11 Mock Preparation and the Road to Exciting Milestones.

Our Year 11 students are embarking on a crucial phase of their secondary education journey. With the mock examinations on the horizon, this period is pivotal for our students as they prepare not only for these important assessments, but also for the exciting milestones that lie ahead, including the much-anticipated Leavers' Assembly and the Prom.

Students preparing for their mock exams

The mock exams serve as a rehearsal for the summer exams, providing students with a clear indication of their current standing, and areas that require further attention. We are very proud of our students and the hard work that has been dedicated to revision and after-hours intervention sessions. Whilst the focus is currently on academic preparation, we also recognise the importance of celebrating the achievements and milestones of our Year 11 cohort.

The Leavers' Assembly and the Prom are two key events that mark the culmination of our students' journey at the Academy. We are also pleased to have continued the tradition of leavers' hoodies, whereby our students will have a memento of their time here. It is a time of hard work, but also of celebration and looking forward to new beginnings. We are incredibly proud of our Year 11s and look forward to supporting them every step of the way! – R Baines

A-Level Excellence: Our Study Club

Our A-Level Study Club continues to be a success this year. Both Year 12 and Year 13 students have been making excellent use of their private study time, as well as the resources provided at the study club to prepare for their upcoming mock examinations.

We will be hosting a UCAS Information Evening on Monday 11th March from 3:30pm – 4:30pm. This event is specifically designed to provide both students and parents/carers with essential information regarding the university application process. – Mr Crawford

From Classroom to Theatre: Drama Students Mesmerised by Ghostly Tale

On Wednesday 7th November GCSE and A-Level Drama students visited the Birmingham Alexandra Theatre to see the ghostly spectacle 'The Woman in Black'.

The performance is full of suspense, clever theatrical design, fantastic acting and jump scares. The production left a lasting impression on the students, sparking animated discussions and eager analyses with one student commenting "Very bone-shaking with great plot twists. I would definitely go back...with a stress ball".

Students will be evaluating the production as part of their assessment and have already started considering their favorite aspects on the journey back to the Academy.

Abbie particularly liked the use of lighting in the production to develop tension. Lily-Ann enjoyed the multi-role playing and the actor's use of characterisation to tell the story. – Mrs Karim
