End of term celebrations!

This week we held our termly award assemblies which was a lovely occasion to celebrate the successes of our students; it was fantastic to have so many nominations. A massive congratulations to all those who received awards. We encourage all students to keep trying their best as we head into the summer term – we want as many of you as possible to receive lots of Q-Points, so you can attend our famous end of year Rewards Trips!

In other news, we visit our Science department who share what students have been doing across different Year Groups. We also share our recent Year 9 Pathways Evening, more career support guidance for our Sixth Form, and finally we share about some of our staff and students who observe Ramadan – it is always interesting for us to share the diversity of our student and staff body.

Please have a safe and restful break, a very Happy Easter, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 8th April at the normal time of 8:45am.

Exploring the Wonders of Time: Science Week Unveiled

This week we have had a fascinating week celebrating Science Week with this year's theme being time. Year 7 have been developing their skills to explore how different surfaces can impact friction.

Year 11 students plunged with enthusiasm into the vibrant world of chemistry, their curiosity ignited by the rainbow of colours unveiled through their ion tests. Their commitment to the investigation was brilliant to see.

Year 13 chemists have worked brilliantly to produce aspirin, a task which requires meticulous work and multiple steps. Students found it interesting to see the process behind producing medication and possible careers linked to their studies. It has been brilliant to see students be inquisitive about science through investigations. – Miss L Smith

Congratulations to our Easter Award winners!

At the end of each term, we take the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our students here at the Academy. We want to give a big congratulations to all students who received an award, or even two! These awards were for Q-Points (Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards), Subject Awards, Representing the Academy, and the Academy Excellence Award.

Students will receive a certificate and a badge which we encourage them to proudly wear on their blazers to celebrate their success. To all our students – let's go into next term with the drive to be as successful as we can be!

Year 9 Pathways Evening

On Monday 18th March, the Academy welcomed our Year 9 students into the Academy for their Pathways Evening. This was an opportunity for students to start gauging which options they will select to study in Key Stage 4.

The Art and Photography stand, ready for Open Evening.

Students and parents/carers had the opportunity to speak to teachers of different subjects to find out more about what they will study in Year 10 and beyond. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to really get a sense of what they might want to study, with sound advice and guidance from staff.

As part of the evening, our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Gurung, presented and shared more about the whole process for the Year 9 cohort. Teachers were also available and keen to discuss the progress of students throughout Key Stage 3.

Over the next few weeks, we encourage students to ask questions and to continue to speak to their teachers and family in order for them to make the right choices on the next stage of their education.

We appreciate everyone who attended and we hope the evening was both interesting and informative. We are looking forward to seeing the choices the students make and supporting our Year 9 students as they begin their Key Stage 4 journey! – Miss B Smith

Celebrating Ramadan

At the Academy, we teach respect for all religions and cultures. We currently have a number of students and staff observing Ramadan. Mrs Hussain, our Science technician, shares some of the food she has for her Ramadan Iftar meal. Typically, a fast is broken with dates. The food she then has includes spicy vegetable casserole, egg fried rice (this is due to Mrs Hussain's Indonesian heritage), and lamb samosas, although different Islamic families have their own meals and choices.

As part of Ramadan, Mrs Hussain will also drink Zamzam, which is holy water brought back from Saudi Arabia.

Mrs Khanam has been supporting some of our students by offering a place for them to go at lunchtime where they can be away from those eating. This will help them with their fasting and give them a space to talk and socialise. They also engage in activities linked to their faith, if they choose.

Exploring Sustainability: Year 10's Insight into Corporate Responsibility"

To celebrate Green Careers, Year 10 had the exciting opportunity to delve into sustainable careers from Georgina, a professional from the law firm Weil Gotshal and Manges, which has 2,200 employees globally, but only 50% are lawyers! The apprenticeship opportunity sparked significant interest among the students who learnt that, although the law firm offered one apprenticeship in this area, there are over 200 advertised in the UK, and not just to be lawyers! – Mrs Meredith
