This week, we would like to highlight the wonderful work our staff do, each and every day, to improve the lives of the young people who attend our Academy. We share how our Ethos Team are supportive of staff wellbeing, as well as sharing the news of the retirement of Mrs Henson, who has exemplified the maximum effort and support our staff offer each and everyday at the Academy. Thank you! This week we also share about some of our boys and girls football teams, and visit the French department where Year 9 have been putting their French culinary skills to the test. Year 9 put French cuisine on the menuWell done to Lily, Dione, Sharni, Olivia, Lexie, and Edith who are the winners of the competition 'le menu du trimestre' as part of their Year 9 French lessons. ![]() We put this into practice! Indeed, we had the amazing opportunity to bake succulent croissants and pain au chocolat. The students really enjoyed having this experience and all got stuck in eagerly. ![]() Voilà ! Our students' pastries turned out even better than those in a bakery. Students loved them and hope to be able to mix food technology with the French language again next term. – Miss Sylla ![]() Year 8 Boys' FootballIn a display of true grit and sportsmanship, our Year 8 boys' football team has been showing commendable dedication and skill in recent weeks. Despite facing a challenging match against Sandwell Academy, where we were a player short, the team's performance was nothing short of heroic. Although the match ended in a narrow defeat, the boys' effort and determination were evident throughout the game. Their commitment has been consistently strong in training sessions and previous matches. ![]() In particular, four of our players have truly stood out with their exceptional contributions and dedication. Their commitment during training sessions and matches has not only set a high standard but also inspired their teammates to strive for excellence. These young athletes exemplify what it means to be a team player, consistently going above and beyond. – Mr Hennings Our very own Lionesses! The girls football team in Year 9 has been making massive improvements to their footballing skills and knowledge of the game over recent months. Following the recent growth in girls' football many of the squad, who only began playing when they joined Q3 Academy Great Barr, now play for local teams as well as regularly attending training and tournaments representing the Academy. ![]() The team are looking forward to taking part in a tournament at West Bromwich Albion's training ground in a couple of weeks' time. It will be a great opportunity for them to play against other academies with coaches and scouts watching on. I am sure they will be fantastic and look forward to reporting back on their performances. Good luck girls and keep up the great work! – Mr Webster ![]() Staff Wellbeing Drop In EventThe Ethos Team had the pleasure of opening our room for a staff 'drop-in'. We provided some tasty samosas, cakes, doughnuts, and hot drinks. There were also some games for staff to play. We saw some competitive games with a group of teachers playing Tetra Tower, and a game of Connect Four with Mr Arnull and Mr Gurung. We wanted the drop-in to be a relaxing environment and to give staff opportunity to meet the Ethos Team. The room was full of laughter and cheer! – Miss M Anderson ![]() Celebrating Mrs Henson – 43 Year Career in EducationAs Mrs Henson steps into retirement, we reflect on her remarkable 43-year journey in education, which began at Smethwick College where she qualified as a Nursery Nurse. Over the decades, she has made significant contributions across various educational settings, demonstrating unwavering dedication and a passion for nurturing young minds. Mrs Henson's career highlights include her roles at Sandwell College and Wodensborough, where she not only supported the SEND team but also taught Early Childhood Studies and Education. Her commitment to professional development was evident as she completed the Graduate Teaching Programme, becoming a lead Practitioner of GCSE Child Development.
