Welcome back to our final half term of the year. We hope all our students had a restful break. As always, there is lots going on this half term at the Academy. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students will be finalising their formal examinations, we have our Year 10 and 12 students completing their mock exams, our Year 10 students will be embarking on work experience, and in addition there are many trips and other activities to look forward to! This week we share what students have been getting up to in French, Food and Nutrition, Drama, and CCF Cadets. We also share details of the highly popular MultiCity Thrillseekers trip which took place over the half term holiday. Lastly, we have an update from the Ethos Team and their lovely recognition of those students who consistently do the right thing through the Ethos Awards. Disney Dreams, Salou Sunshine, and Barcelona Bliss! On the evening of Thursday 23rd May, a group of Years 9, 10, and 12 students set out by coach bound for Paris in France to explore the delights of Disneyland Paris. This was the first stop in our epic multi-city thrillseekers adventure over the May half-term break. ![]() The second stop on our action-packed itinerary was Salou in Spain. We were fortunate to have such beautiful weather to really enjoy our two days in PortAventura theme park, day in Caribe Aquatic Park, and evening in Ferrari Land. We even managed to squeeze in a kick-about on the golden beach for those not too busy basking in the sun! ![]() Our final port of call was the bustling heart of Catalunya, Barcelona. Here students were able to independently explore the beautiful city as well as taking in a breathtaking, traditional flamenco show at the oldest flamenco tablao in the city, tasting tapas in Plaça Reial in the Gothic Quarter, and capturing memories for their photo albums at the Big Museum of Fun. ![]() The students had such an amazing time that they're already asking about trips for next year, so watch this space for our next wild adventure! ![]() I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff team that gave up their half-term, so that we could offer our students this incredible experience. – Mr Price Voyage through Francophonie: Year 8's Impressive PresentationsWell done to Year 8 who have worked so hard on their project on Francophonie, researching the countries' locations, currency, culture, religion, and historical facts. The students were brave enough to present their chosen countries in front of their peers. It was so interesting to listen to them. They were all so motivated and passionate about this cross-curriculum project! ![]() In this presentation, students demonstrated great knowledge of Morocco, from the cuisine, lifestyle, and history to traditions. ![]() Students used technology to make sure that their peers got the most out of their hard work. – Mr Savadogo ![]() Marvelous Meringue! The Year 10 Food students have been developing their practical skills in preparation for their practical exam next year. This week they have created a lemon meringue pie by making fresh shortcrust pastry, lemon curd, and meringue. ![]() Whilst developing their practical skills they have been able to visualise the scientific reactions of shortening, coagulation, denaturation, and foam formation following on from our theory lessons about food science, which occurs in their Year 11 coursework and written exam paper. ![]() With numerous steps to follow and skills to perfect, the students performed amazingly to complete the practical on time and to such a high quality. Well done Year 10! – Mrs Leybourn ![]() "Howdy Partner!" KS3 Drama Club Create Exciting Western for American Culture DayOur KS3 Drama Club consists of a group of wonderfully creative students with one thing in common – they love Drama! When the opportunity arose to create a piece of theatre for the American Culture Day during Culture Week, we eagerly embraced it! ![]() We have been working on a Western that tells the story of a small-town Sheriff and his Deputy on the hunt for notorious cattle rustler Mean Mac. When confronted there is a tension filled standoff and a gripping cliff-hanger. ![]() So, will Mean Mac escape the authorities again? Will order be restored in Deadwood? Students will have the opportunity to watch and find out during American Culture Day on Thursday 4th July. – Mrs Karim ![]() Cadets Reach for the StarsA key part of the CCF syllabus is the study of space and rocketry. This reflects the Royal Air Force's own responsibility for protecting the UK's interests in space. Our cadets are diving into the fascinating world of rocketry and uncovering the rich history of space exploration. During their time in the CCF here at Q3 Academy Great Barr, students have the chance to take part in a range of STEM challenges and activities and recently built their own rockets with the help of the Royal Navy! – Mr Burlace ![]() Ethos Rewards! This term, the Ethos Team have launched 'Ethos Rewards'.
