This week we have some great articles including: celebrating the success of one of our Year 7 students; our Year 13 leaving event; the Life Skills club and the opportunities offered to support students; Year 7 and 8 students representing the Academy in the Street Elite Festival; and the passionate work our MFL department has been completing with our Year 8 cohort. Please be reminded that the Academy is closed to students on Monday for our planned staff training day. Year 8 Students Excel in French Numeracy ChallengeIn French, we highlight the significance of numeracy in language learning and share some insights on how this interdisciplinary approach can benefit our students. Our Year 8 students had a blast participating in the Numeracy Challenge. The competition runs in three rounds in which students have to complete as many multiplication sums in French in soixante secondes as they can. ![]() When studying foreign languages, students frequently encounter statistical information, such as population demographics, economic data, and cultural statistics. A solid foundation in numeracy enables students to analyse and interpret this data accurately, fostering a deeper understanding of the cultural and societal contexts of the languages they are learning. ![]() The importance of numeracy in language learning cannot be overstated. It enriches students' cognitive development, aids in the interpretation of data, supports practical communication, and fosters an interdisciplinary mindset. – Mr Savadogo ![]() Representing West Bromwich FC in Turin, ItalyAmarii in Year 7 got the experience of a lifetime by representing West Bromwich Albion in Turin, Italy. Here is his account of the trip: "We went to the West Brom first team training ground. A coach was waiting for us and took us to the airport. The airport was busy, but we still made our flight. When we landed in Turin, we were picked up by three cars and taken to the hotel. We were given room keys and headed to our rooms, with two to three people per room." ![]() "After we unpacked, we headed for dinner, which wasn't my favourite! However, after dinner, we headed up to our rooms, to be ready for the first match tomorrow, which was exciting to think about!" ![]() "On the first day of the tournament, it was a very bright and sunny day. Some of the parents made the trip as they brought a positive and energetic atmosphere. We won our first three matches: 1-0, 9-0, and 3-1. On the last day, we won two matches and drew one: 3-1, 3-1, 0-0." ![]() "We got to the semi-finals against Lascaris. It ended 0-0, and the game went to penalties. We lost 6-7 on penalties and came fourth in the whole tournament, which had a total of 24 teams. I scored three goals throughout the tournament and got four assists. I had a great experience going to Turin with the lads and the coaches, and I can't wait for more trips abroad." – Amarii ![]() A massive well done to Amarii for his accomplishments. As an Academy, we are extremely proud of all our students' accomplishments and encourage students to share their successes so we can share more stories, like Amarii's, in the future. – Mrs Ward Life Skills Club Sparks Creativity! This term, our Life Skills Club has been a hive of activity! Our students have been enthusiastically honing their basic sewing skills, including sewing on a button and hand stitching. They even had the exciting opportunity to use a sewing machine, which many found both challenging and rewarding. ![]() Building on these new skills, students have now moved onto a creative project: designing their own photo frames. They began by crafting cardboard models to perfect their designs. Now, they are bringing these designs to life using wood, drills, and saws. It's truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and creativity in action. We look forward to seeing their finished photo frames soon! – Miss Reardon-Allen ![]() Year 13 Summer Leavers EventThe Year 13 Summer Leavers Event took place on Friday 21st June 2024, coinciding with the day of the last A-Level exam. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate the end of exams and the culmination of their time as students at Q3 Academy Great Barr. ![]() The celebration was thoughtfully organised by the Sixth Sorm team to ensure it was a memorable occasion for all. We provided a delightful selection of sweet snacks and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Students were greeted with a presentation of throwback pictures to when they joined us as Year 7 students which stirred lots of laughs! Our fantastic A-Level teaching staff were present to bid their farewells and to celebrate the remarkable achievements alongside the students. ![]() We encouraged students to bring their shirts or leavers' books to be signed by friends and staff, creating lasting memories of their time at the Academy. The event also offered ample opportunities for taking photographs, capturing these special moments with friends and teachers. ![]() We are incredibly proud of all that Year 13 have achieved during their time at Q3 Academy Great Brar, and wish them every success in their future pursuits.
