I am thrilled to be joining the Academy and collaborating with all the staff, governors, and students that make it a great place to work and learn. I am also looking forward to developing links with our families and the communities that we serve. I join the Academy from The Ladder School within The Mercian Trust, giving me an excellent insight to Q3 Academy Great Barr's journey to date. ![]() I want to continue to develop the Academy's high standards and positive reputation in the local area. As an experienced headteacher it is my goal to make sure that students receive a brilliant education that enables them to achieve excellent examination results, so they have the opportunities to enjoy the brightest possible futures. It will be my mission to lead the Academy to even 'greater' success. – Mr Bury ![]() Celebrating Success: Results Days at the AcademyOver the summer, we were delighted to celebrate our GCSE and A-Level Results Days. These are always a highlight of the year as we come together to celebrate students' hard-earned achievements. ![]() Year 13 students were the first to pick up their results, and it was amazing to see them beaming with pride and excited to embark on their chosen courses at universities across the country. ![]() The following week, our Year 11s picked up their grades. The joy on students' faces was heartwarming as they celebrated with friends and teachers. Highlights included Rahul who achieved five Grade 9s! ![]() We are really pleased that many students are continuing with their education with us in the Sixth Form. Others are moving on to new destinations, ready to embrace fresh challenges and opportunities. ![]() Beyond their grades, we are immensely proud of the individuals our students have become. They embody our values and we are confident that they will continue to be a success in whatever path they choose: life to the full in pursuit of what is good, right, and true. ![]() We wish all our leavers the very best in their future endeavours and are pleased to be welcoming returning students for another successful year. ![]() Celebrating athletic excellence at Sports DayOur annual Sports Day was a resounding success, filled with enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and remarkable performances. Students from Years 7, 8, 9, and 10 showcased their athletic prowess in a variety of field and track events. Students from Year 12 also offered invaluable support throughout the day. ![]() The morning kicked off with field events, where students competed in Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin. Each event saw impressive displays of skill and determination, with students pushing their limits to achieve their personal best. ![]() As the day heated up, so did the competition. The afternoon was dedicated to track events, including the 400m, 200m, 100m, hurdles, and a series of exciting relays: 4 x 100m, mixed relay, and obstacle relay. The entire Academy gathered to cheer on the athletes, creating an electric atmosphere that spurred the competitors to give their all. ![]() Despite the scorching heat, every student competed superbly, demonstrating resilience and team spirit. The support from fellow students and teachers was overwhelming, making the day truly memorable. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding efforts. Here's to another year of sporting excellence at the Academy! – Mr Hard ![]() Lions, Lorikeets and Laughs at the Safari Park!Our intrepid safari explorers set out on the first day of last term's Rewards Trips to enjoy West Midlands Safari Park. ![]() We first enjoyed a coach tour of the park, getting up close to some of the world's most incredible animals. Lions, giraffes, rhinos, and elephants were all on good form! Then it was off to the theme park area to enjoy the rides. Good weather and great company made for a special day. – Mr Mills ![]() A Day of Celebration at Alton Towers!Alton Towers, renowned for its thrilling rides and stunning attractions, provided the perfect setting for a Rewards Day trip filled with fun and adventure! Our students had the opportunity to enjoy everything from adrenaline-pumping rollercoasters to relaxing strolls through the beautiful gardens. The trip was a reward for students who demonstrated exemplary behaviour, excellent attendance, and commendable academic performance over the year. – Miss Tromans ![]() Cadbury World Delights Chocolate EnthusiastsIn July, a group of students and staff attended their chosen Rewards Day trip to Cadbury World. Students had the chance to sample plenty of chocolate, learnt about the origins of chocolate and the complicated process involved in making it, and enjoyed an interactive ride where they collected the ingredients that Freddo the Frog needed to make delicious Cadbury chocolate. ![]() Students even got to meet Freddo the Frog himself as well as the Caramel Bunny, before enjoying some free time in the outdoor area which provided lots more fun activities including the adventure playground and the 4D Chocolate Adventure Cinema. ![]() All students and staff had a brilliant day out and even the staff couldn't resist posing with the famous Freddo, bringing out their inner child! – Miss B Smith ![]() Pushing Boundaries: Cadets' Summer AdventureIn July, our cadets attended their summer camp held at Plas Gwynant outdoor education centre in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. The theme for the camp was physical and mental challenge, resilience, teamwork, and communication. Cadets had the opportunity to take part in bouldering, canoeing, gorge walking, and abseiling, testing themselves to their limits and achieving things they didn't think possible. ![]() During the week, cadets were responsible for looking after themselves throughout the day. Senior cadets also developed their leadership skills by taking charge of a group of cadets. All of the cadets will take the skills that they have learned here forwards into life at the Academy and in work in the future. ![]() A small number of lucky cadets and staff were also given the opportunity to go flying with 8AEF at RAF Cosford. They gained hands-on experience of flying the RAF Grob Tutor primary trainer and even tested the strength of their stomachs with some aerobatics. These are just some of the experiences that our cadets have on offer.
