When parents and carers work together with the Academy, the high standards that our students can achieve are wonderful to see. We are committed to creating a positive and welcoming environment for all, and this is only possible with your support. We care about getting the little things right, such as students arriving on time and immaculately dressed, because this creates a purposeful culture where everyone takes pride in their learning and successes.

Working Together to Support Your Child

When parents and carers work together with the Academy, the high standards that our students can achieve are wonderful to see. We are committed to creating a positive and welcoming environment for all, and this is only possible with your support. We care about getting the little things right, such as students arriving on time and immaculately dressed, because this creates a purposeful culture where everyone takes pride in their learning and successes.

Students are happy to be at Q3 Academy Great Barr

As you know, this term we introduced some minor changes to our Positive Behaviour Policy. Students now consistently attend all their lessons and there has been a calm and happy atmosphere around the Academy. Our staff give "first attention to best conduct", which means we regularly praise students who display the best social and learning behaviours. So far this year, we've given over 7 times as many Q-Points as negative points.

Students taking pride in their learning and progress

As well as using praise, it is appropriate that we also set sanctions for poor behaviour. We know that families, as well as staff, care about our students being successful and our Academy being safe, calm, and disruption-free, and so we ask for your support when talking with your child about their detentions. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you are always welcome to email your child's Personal Tutor who will be happy to help. We want to work in partnership with you. – Mr Webster

Open Evening

Remember that students will be dismissed early at 12:45pm tomorrow, to allow our staff time to prepare for Open Evening. Student helpers, who have already received invitation letters, should return by 4:30pm in immaculate Business Dress. We look forward to showcasing the best of our Academy!

Year 10 Students Take the Stage: Exploring GCSE Drama

September has seen a group of wonderful Year 10 students commence their study of GCSE Drama. The students have been introduced to a range of dramatic strategies in these initial lessons to support them with devising original drama and making their work more thought-provoking and interesting for an audience.

They will explore the work of multiple theatre practitioners and investigate the potential of theatre, considering creative intentions and target audiences, before developing their first piece of assessed performance work later on in the year.

Recently we've been exploring the impact of mask work in performance and a range of strategies such as 'Marking the Moment' and 'Flashback'. Students will have opportunities to see live professional theatre as part of the course and will be able to link their learning in lessons to what they see on the professional stage. – Mrs Karim

Board Games are Back!

Board Games Club has returned this term on a new day of the week, but with just as much fun as before! Now meeting on Tuesdays after hours, we explore the varied world of modern board games and are always looking for new members.

Whilst you might not have heard of many of the games before (no Snakes and Ladders here!), we're sure you'll be intrigued by the clever tactics and strategies you can explore with your friends. See me, Mr Kulyna or Mr Machin if you want to find out more. – Mr Mills
