When students arrive to the Academy fully equipped, it sets them up for a positive and purposeful day. Parents and carers, please check your child's bag each morning to make sure they have all the required items. Students should always have a black pen, pencil, ruler, and scientific calculator (we recommend the Casio fx-83GT CW). ![]() Students also need a purple pen for correcting their work and acting on teacher feedback, and a red pen for writing translations in French lessons. ![]() On days when they have Wellbeing Active or practical PE lessons, students should bring their full branded Sports Kit and trainers. ![]() Finally, students sometimes need to bring in food ingredients for cooking lessons. When this is required, we will give plenty of notice and post it as an assignment on Teams. ![]() Temporary Footpath ClosureWe have been informed that from next week until mid-December, the National Grid will be carrying out works to install electricity cables along the footpath to the south of the Academy. This will result in the path being closed at times. If your child normally travels this way then please support them to find an alternative route. The contractors have asked us to pass on their apologies for the inconvenience. ![]() Mastering the Art of Descriptive WritingYear 11 students have recently been working on developing descriptive writing skills in preparation for their GCSE English Language exams. They have explored various stimuli, such as images and short extracts, to spark their creativity. Students engaged in mind mapping activities, allowing them to generate and organise ideas for their descriptive responses. This helped them to think more deeply about the details they wish to include in their writing. ![]() As a class, we collaboratively created descriptive responses, sharing ideas and building on each other's suggestions. This group work allowed students to see how different perspectives can enhance a piece of writing and encouraged them to experiment with language. By working together, they were able to explore how to use sensory details, imagery, and figurative language to bring their descriptions to life. ![]() In addition to the collaborative work, students have also been practising writing detailed responses independently. They have focused on using a variety of creative sentence types, such as complex, compound, and short, impactful sentences, to add depth and interest to their writing. This independent practice is crucial in helping them develop their own voice and style, as well as ensuring they can meet the demands of the exam. ![]() All of this work is designed to prepare students for their GCSE, where descriptive writing forms a key part of the exam. This section is worth 25% of their overall grade, so it is essential that they feel confident in their ability to produce detailed, imaginative, and well-structured responses. By practising these skills now, students will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of the exam and achieve their full potential. – Miss Russell ![]() Watching Me, Watching YouThis week, our team of psychologists took a closer look at children's cartoons to see what behaviours they could uncover. ![]() Psychologists had to make sure that they were watching carefully when observing the others in the class. – Miss Morgan ![]() Chefs in the Making! Our Year 9 students have recently had their first food practical of the year. It's been heartwarming to see students supporting each other every step of the way. ![]() Students have applied their food safety knowledge to avoid cross-contamination, used the bridge and claw method to cut their vegetables accurately, and developed their independence when using the hob to create a delicious vegetable ragu! ![]() Watching the students hone their culinary skills has been truly exciting, with other year groups creating a range of dishes such as coleslaw, risotto, and curry, and Year 11 conducting food science investigations for their NEA. – Mrs Leybourn ![]() Unstoppable Year 8 Boys Dominate the FieldIn an unforgettable match this week, the Year 8 boys put on a phenomenal display of football, securing a dominant 15-0 victory against Phoenix, despite them only having 10 players on the pitch. The team's relentless energy and teamwork were evident throughout the whole match, with every player stepping up to cover extra ground, leaving Phoenix with no chance of a comeback. It was a great performance, and the boys should be incredibly proud of their achievement. ![]() Kishan and Amari were the standout players, with Kishan netting an impressive 6 goals, while Amari followed closely with 5 goals of his own. Callum contributed with 2 well-taken goals, and both Jovan and Rajveer added to the tally with a goal each.
