We are fortunate to have a range of online platforms available to our students; you will have seen Sparx mentioned in previous editions of this newsletter. We also set other types of homework tasks for students to show their creativity, dedication, and knowledge.

If your child is ever struggling to access the online platforms being used for particular subjects, please encourage them to visit the after-hours club hosted by Miss Perkins and Miss Russell in Room 116 every Wednesday. This provides a setting to help students get set up, log in, or complete tasks. – Mr Mills

Year 10 Explore the Evolution of Popular Music

Our excellent GCSE Music students have been researching how popular music has changed over the last 75 years. Every week, students have delved into a fresh genre from a different era, uncovering the rich history of popular music.

Students have analysed the four genres that will eventually appear on their end of year exam: Rock 'n' Roll of the 1950s and 60s, Rock Anthems of the 1970s and 80s, Pop Ballads of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, and finally Solo Artists from the 1990s to the present day.

Exaggerated Fun: Year 8 Explore Melodrama

Year 8 students have just completed their first Scheme for Learning, exploring the dramatic genre of melodrama. For their final assessment, students had to create a silent movie including the main features of this genre, engaging an audience through the power of exaggerated acting, slapstick comedy, and stock characters.

Students in masks and costumes performing a dramatic scene

Students thoroughly enjoyed diving into physical characterisation, creating exaggerated characters designed to convey a moral to the audience. They eagerly explored the rich history of theatre, looking at what made the genre so popular in the 19th and early 20th Century and the influences we can still see in drama today. – Mrs Karim

Celebrating Hard Work in Maths

Our students have been putting in tremendous effort in preparation for their upcoming maths assessments. With access to after-hours revision clubs, their dedication has been inspiring. Teachers have been working closely with students, providing extra support and resources to ensure everyone feels well prepared. We are confident that this hard work will be reflected in their results.

We want to remind parents about the value of staying informed. If you haven't already signed up for MiniTest, please do so as soon as possible. This platform will allow you to receive your child's assessment results directly via email. An email with instructions on how to sign up was sent at the start of the year, but if you need any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Year 8 Behind Bars!

On Monday, a group of Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to explore the question 'does punishment fit the crime?' as part of our 'Living in the Real World' theme in Wellbeing Inspire. What better place to ponder the question than from a prison cell?

We were shown around A-Wing and C-Wing by a Prison Officer who shared what prison life was like in Georgian, Victorian, and modern times. Students were shocked to learn how severe punishments were for what we'd consider minor misdemeanours nowadays! Whilst students initially thought that the pillory was unfair torture for gossiping, we reflected on whether social media has taken on this role in today's society. – Mr Price
