Treasure Island Pantomime: A Festive Triumph!

Our Performing Arts department kicked off the holiday season in spectacular style with the Q3 Academy Great Barr Christmas Pantomime, Treasure Island. In three electrifying performances during the final week of term, the students brought the stage to life for over 200 delighted local primary children, followed by two evening shows that wowed family and community members alike.

From Year 7 to the Sixth Form, students showcased their talents as actors, dancers, singers, musicians, and stage crew, creating a truly collaborative production. The live band provided an incredible soundtrack throughout, while the cast excelled in bringing pantomime magic to life with their energy, humor, and audience engagement.

Highlights included laugh-out-loud moments like water pistol antics, a crocodile strutting across the stage, and the thrilling demise of the evil giant octopus – with the audience's enthusiastic support, of course! One cast member shared: "It has been an incredible experience putting this show together, and I will remember it forever."

Speaking French with Confidence

As part of our commitment to fostering both linguistic competence and confidence, we are placing an increased emphasis on practical application, particularly in spoken French and presentation skills.

These students guided their classmates through Monaco, providing a lot of useful information about "Le rocher"

Last term, students enthusiastically honed their skills to communicate eloquently in French, with a focus on pronunciation, fluency, and confidence. This was an opportunity to practise conversational skills in pairs and small groups, as well as presenting in front of the whole class.

This exciting shift from theory to practice is an essential step in helping students apply their knowledge in real-world contexts. It also aligns with the skills they will need for their GCSE speaking assessments and, more broadly, for effective communication in an increasingly globalized world. – Mr Savadogo

Learning About Neurons, One Sweet at a Time

Recently our Psychology students have been learning about neurons and synapses through the medium of sweets!

Students worked together to identify the differences between each neuron and had to show these by labelling their diagrams.

Year 9 Anti-Bullying Workshops

Last term, the Ethos Team facilitated workshops linked to Anti-Bullying Week. These were designed to bring awareness to different types of bullying and the impact that it can have on mental and emotional health. Students were educated about how to recognise bullying and encouraged to speak out if they see or hear it. They were also given names of organisations that can support. At Q3 Academy Great Barr, we do not tolerate bullying of any kind. – Ms Anderson

Year 12 Relational Skills Workshops

The Ethos Team also facilitated workshops for Year 12 students, exploring relational skills. Over the course of three hours, students had the opportunity to explore topics such as conflict resolution and signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships. The sessions were interactive and full of helpful information. – Ms Anderson
