Play, Perform, Progress – Join Our Music Lessons!

We are very happy to offer high-quality instrumental lessons at Q3 Academy Great Barr. The benefits of learning a musical instrument stretch far past being able to play a tune, chords, or a beat. All our lessons are taught by professional musicians and we are lucky to boast some of the best instrumental teachers in the area. Lessons are subsidised and offered at a very competitive rate to open opportunities to all.

Learning to play a musical instrument offers a wealth of benefits. It has been shown to boost mental health by reducing stress and providing an emotional outlet for self-expression. Mastering an instrument also sharpens cognitive abilities, improving memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills.

Year 7 Drama Students Dive Into the Art of Storytelling

This term in Year 7 Drama, students have been embarking on an exciting journey through the world of storytelling. As part of their curriculum, they've been learning how to bring stories to life on stage using a variety of dramatic strategies designed to captivate and engage an audience.

From tales of ancient times to modern interpretations, students have explored stories from different periods and cultures. Most recently, they've been focusing on the thrilling Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. With energy and imagination, they've experimented with ways to transform this legendary story into a powerful theatrical experience.

Using techniques such as narration, soundscapes, and physical theatre, students have worked collaboratively to recreate the suspense of Theseus's journey into the labyrinth. They've also been learning how to tailor their performances for different target audiences, developing an understanding of how atmosphere and emotion can be conveyed through performance. The Year 7 drama classroom is buzzing with creativity, and we look forward to seeing how their storytelling skills continue to grow. – Mrs Karim

Mock Practice in A-Level History

This week our wonderful Year 12 historians have been putting in the hard yards in preparation for their end of year mock exams.

The students used historical sources as they would in an exam and also their mini whiteboards to analyse typical questions they will need to answer. They produced some fantastic work and their hard work and effort will pay off in the end. Keep it up, team! – Mr Davies

Family Games Afternoon

Thank you to the students and their families who attended our Ethos Family Fun and Games Afternoon during half term. We played badminton, basketball, huge skittles, penalty shoot-outs, huge Jenga, and some competitive team games, and we also created some fabulous works of art with sidewalk chalk outside. It was a free fun family afternoon, and I think the adults enjoyed it as much as the children! Ask a member of the Ethos team for information on our upcoming events. – Ms Anderson

Exploring Bewdley: Year 10 Geographers in Action

Last week, Year 10 Geography students journeyed to the charming riverside town of Bewdley as part of their GCSE fieldwork studies. They investigated the effects of tourism and collected primary data – a hands-on experience that will be thoroughly analysed in class to support their GCSE exams next summer.

Equipped with clipboards and curiosity, students eagerly explored how tourism shapes Bewdley's environment and community. Their tasks included completing a questionnaire with members of the public, conducting an environmental quality audit, and conducting traffic and pedestrian counts of the town's key tourist hotspots.

By surveying both visitors and locals, students gained first-hand insight into the rewards and challenges tourism brings to Bewdley. Responses ranged from comments on the town's thriving local economy and bustling cafes to concerns about littering and increased traffic during peak seasons.
