Respecting our Academy Environment

We aspire for all students to demonstrate respect for our surroundings. A clean and tidy Academy is a reflection of the pride we all take in our community.

Tidying up the playground

We always love to see students and staff volunteering to take part in litter picking. This helps to keep our grounds looking their best and sets a positive example for everyone. Thank you also to everyone who picks up litter when they see it around the Academy, without even being asked – this is a truly kind and selfless act.

Taking time to keep the playground tidy

Parents and carers, please remind your children about the importance of using the bins provided. While most students always do the right thing, a small number occasionally drop litter or walk away without clearing away their empty bottles and crisp packets. With your support, we can all help to maintain a clean and respectful environment for everyone. – Mr Webster

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who contributed to last week's Parent/Carer Survey. We really appreciate your feedback and the Senior Leadership Team will review your comments as part of our strategic planning for next academic year.

Staff Training Day

As a reminder, the Academy is closed this Friday, 27th June, for a staff training day.

Farewell and Congratulations to Year 13!

Year 13 students have now completed their exams and are looking forward to a well-deserved summer break. This is a time for them to relax, reflect on their achievements, and celebrate the end of this part of their academic journey. As they prepare for the next stage – whether that's university, an apprenticeship, or entering the world of work – they can take pride in all they have accomplished and look ahead with excitement to new opportunities and experiences.

Non-alcoholic mocktails and delicious samosas were enjoyed by both staff and students. A highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, where students voted for their peers in categories such as 'Most Likely to Be on Reality TV', 'Best Hair', and 'Friends for Life'.

Throughout their time at the Academy, they have demonstrated resilience, dedication, and a commitment to both their studies and the wider community. We wish them every success and happiness in all their future endeavours and look forward to welcoming them back on Results Day on Thursday 14th August. – Mr Crawford

Summer Fest 2025 Bursts into Life with Dazzling Day One Performances

The first day of Summer Fest 2025 was a rousing success! Each year, we take time to create a relaxed concert space to showcase the hard work and talent of our young performers in drama and music. Due to the high number of performers, we have split this year's showcases over a two day festival!

The event included guitarists, vocalists, pianists, Shakespearian monologues and duologues, our excellent dhol drummers, solo debutants, newly formed duos, a new five-part play based on Shakespeare's works, and much more!

New Flight Simulators take Flying Training to the Next Level

Following a significant grant from the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association and support from X-Plane, Next Level Racing, and Thrustmaster, we now have five operational flight simulators which will be used to further enhance the quality of flying training offered to our CCF cadets.

The simulators give cadets the best possible training to prepare them for their air experience flights and allow them to gain valuable experience which they can use in their application for the Royal Air Force Air Cadet Flying Scholarship, a scheme which funds pilot training for cadets, allowing them to work towards a Pilot's License.

Cadets learn about the effect of control inputs, aircraft handling techniques, and aerobatic maneuvers in a ground-based programme that replicates the air experience flights and allows them to obtain their blue flying badge. In the future, the systems will be connected to allow for communication with each other and air traffic control in order to develop teamwork and communication skills, and allow cadets to practice formation flying and aerobatics like the Red Arrows! – Mr Burlace

Creative Sparks in Design & Technology

Our Key Stage 3 students in DT have been super busy this term. Mrs Leybourn's students have been working on their Block Bot project, learning the key health and safety procedures in the workshop to use the saw, pillar drill, and sanding machine.

Mr Webster's group have enthusiastically developed their embroidery skills, creating vibrant embroidery samples and unique pattern pieces to prepare them for creating their final Ugly Doll. This project helps students understand sustainability in textiles, different material properties, and how to apply decorative techniques.

Mrs Harkin's Year 9 students have been developing their Computer Aided Design skills to create a clock inspired by a design movement. We are incredibly impressed by the students' enthusiasm and the impressive attention to detail they have shown in every project. Well done everyone! – Mrs Leybourn
