As a reminder, our extracurricular club offering is available on our website. We encourage students to take part in as many activities as they'd like. Why not try something new? Helpdesk HighlightsAs a reminder, the best way to get in contact is by emailing our helpdesk. Last week, we resolved 72 tickets with an average response time of 26 minutes during working hours. Social Media Trends – Keeping our Community Safe!We are aware of current social media challenges and trends that encourage antisocial behaviour within the community. Although, as far as we are aware, Q3 Academy Great Barr has not been specifically named in any of these online posts, we are working closely with our Police Liaison Officer and other relevant agencies to monitor the situation carefully. We kindly remind parents and carers to remain vigilant regarding their child's online activity and to report any suspicious or concerning content using the reporting tools provided by each platform. We also ask that you discuss the importance of making positive choices with your child, so that they do not engage, promote, or share any of the social media posts. We continue to invest in the National Online Safety platform for parents/carers and share their Parent Guide to Online Challenges and Parent Guide to Snapchat. – Mr Webster Economics Extravaganza!Students recently took part in an engaging lesson focused on economic growth, exploring what it means for countries, businesses, and individuals. Through interactive activities and real world examples, students examined the factors that drive growth, such as investment, productivity, and innovation, and discussed how these influence living standards and future opportunities. The lesson sparked lively debate and encouraged students to think critically about how economies develop.
Our Year 12 students took part in a thought provoking lesson exploring the drawbacks of economic growth, examining why growth is not always entirely positive for an economy. Through case studies and discussion, students considered issues such as environmental damage, income inequality, overreliance on scarce resources, and the potential for unsustainable, inflationary pressures. They were highly engaged, debating whether economic growth is always positive for countries! – Mr Richards
Blown Away by Theatrical Magic: KS3 Students Inspired by Percy Jackson MusicalKey Stage 3 students enjoyed an inspiring visit to Birmingham Hippodrome last Wednesday to see Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, the Musical. The trip was offered to students with a passion for performance and theatre, as well as those in Year 9 who are currently considering GCSE Drama as one of their option choices.
The professional production gave students the chance to experience live performance and theatre design at its very best. From dynamic staging and imaginative set pieces to high-energy choreography and striking lighting, the show brought the world of Percy Jackson vividly to life, offering a powerful example of how acting, music and technical elements work together on a professional stage.
Our students were full of praise afterwards. One Year 9 student said, "I loved how they showed the story through the music and acting. The songs and vocals were so good. I was blown away by some of the vocal ranges. It's something I would definitely recommend to others!" Another commented, "I loved it, and I'd watch it 100 times again if I could. It was so immersive, and I was blown away by the talent displayed." – Mrs Karim
